Nova Star Awards is entering an exciting new chapter under the leadership of Melissa Chung — producer, entrepreneur, and passionate advocate for emerging youth talent. Through her work in film and the launch of the TIFF Melissa Chung Studio, Melissa has created opportunities for young creatives to grow and thrive. Inspired by the need for more accessible pathways in the arts, she also launched free acting classes for youth in Scarborough. Under her leadership, Nova Star Awards continues to celebrate excellence in entertainment while empowering the next generation of artists, performers, and storytellers.

Gavin Sheppard is a social entrepreneur, mentor, and cultural leader dedicated to empowering youth and creative communities. Over the past 15+ years, he has helped build and lead impactful organizations including The Remix Project, TEDxToronto, and Ignite The Americas Network, supporting the growth of emerging talent in music, fashion, arts, and business. Recognized as a TED Fellow, Yale World Fellow, and Toronto Vital People recipient, Gavin is known for bridging opportunities across culture, education, and leadership. He is also co-founder of Quiet As Kept, founder of Public Records, and author of 100 | A City Kid’s Survival Guide.

Ron Dias is a Toronto-based film director, writer, and producer whose work shines a light on underrepresented voices and overlooked communities. His storytelling blends raw authenticity with cinematic vision, exploring themes of resilience, identity, and transformation. Dias’ films have been showcased at major festivals, including the American Black Film Festival, and his award- winning projects (Bite of Mango, Morningside) have connected with audiences worldwide. With a background in both creative direction and production, Dias is committed to building powerful narratives that resonate globally while staying rooted in the cultural richness of his community.
